Sir Matthew Pinsent CBE

In one of the classic sporting moments of all time, Sir Matthew Pinsent led the Great Britain Coxless Four to victory at the Athens Olympic Games in 2004. Just eight one hundredths of a second ahead of the Canadian Champions, the win booked Matt’s place in Olympic history.

Today, Matthew Pinsent is one of only five athletes to have won four consecutive Olympic Gold Medals. Winning his first Gold at age 21, Matt’s medal history includes a Gold with Sir Steve Redgrave in the Coxless Pairs at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992 and again at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996, followed by Gold in the Coxless Fours at both the Sydney Olympics in 2000 and the Athens Olympics in 2004.

Matt published his autobiography, ‘A Lifetime in a Race’ in September 2004. Matt retired from international rowing at the end of 2004 and currently works a sports correspondent and presenter for BBC News 24.

Matt graduated in geography from St Catherine’s College Oxford in 1992 where he was President of the Oxford University Boat Club.
