Why was The Bridge Network established? Elite athletes today are making ever greater investments of time and resources in pursuing their sporting dreams. Lining up on the start of their first race at the 2012 Olympic Games the average athlete will have typically spent four to eight years where their primary activity has been training for their sport, with many now beyond ten years. Inevitably every elite athlete at some point moves on to pursue new goals – a life change that in our experience presents challenges as well as opportunities.
How can we help? Firstly, the former elite athletes in our network who have successfully made the move to new careers can provide valuable support and advice to those in the midst of that same transition. Secondly, we believe the skills and mindsets of elite athletes are often an untapped resource as they move to post-sport careers.
We are looking to work with prospective employers to accelerate this transition. We believe this will benefit not only athletes but also companies looking for new angles to build their pool of employee talent.
